Layer Types Reference
A Pro Scene is built from layers. Open the Add New Layer menu on a Pro Scene and pick a type. This page lists each type, what it is for, and the options you can set.
The Dynamic Scene has no Add New Layer menu. Its Layers tab holds the Apps & Widgets, Logo, Video Clips, Overlay and Background sections instead.
Options shared by all layers
Every layer can be:
- Moved, resized and rotated on the canvas, or given exact dimensions from the toolbar
- Set to any opacity from 0 to 100
- Cropped from any edge (most types)
- Given rounded corners
- Hidden or locked
- Moved up or down in the layer order, or deleted
- Marked with a color (orange, purple, pink, teal, red or magenta) so it is easy to find in the layer list
Media and camera layers can also keep their aspect ratio or fill the whole frame. In Dual Streaming Mode, each layer keeps a separate position, size, crop and hidden/locked state for the portrait feed.
Chroma key (green screen)
Camera, screen share, media share, video and image layers support chroma key. Open it from the brush dropper in the layer toolbar. Pick a preset color (red, green or blue) or a custom color, then adjust the intensity and edge softness.
Dynamic Grid
Embeds the Dynamic Scene’s auto-arranging participant grid inside a Pro Scene. Participants you add to the grid are laid out automatically.
Options:
- Fit / Fill: how participant tiles fill the grid
- Vertical alignment: Top, Center, Bottom
- Horizontal alignment: Left, Center, Right
A scene can hold only one Dynamic Grid layer.
Text
A text overlay. Type the text and style it from the toolbar.
Options:
- Paragraph: font size (10 to 300 px), line spacing, font weight (100 to 900), letter spacing (0 to 20)
- Font color and background color
- Text align: left, center, right
- Vertical align: top, center, bottom
- Font family
- Italic and underline toggles
- Padding (0 to 500 px)
Available fonts: Roboto (default), Germania One, Rubik Glitch, Permanent Marker, Caveat, Kalam, Courgette, Concert One, Open Sans, Lato, Poppins, Merriweather, Inconsolata.
Animated Caption
An animated text overlay for lower thirds, titles and similar. Click the settings icon on the layer to open its options.
Options:
- Animation style: choose from the available animations
- Text rows: up to four rows of text, or pull the name and title from a speaker
- Colors: a primary and a secondary color
- Scale
- Position: bottom left, bottom right, top left, top right or center
- Use logo: show your logo in the caption
- Timing: start delay, stay static or cycle, how long it stays visible, and the time between cycles
- Video background with adjustable opacity
AI Generated Image
Creates an image with AI and places it on the scene as an image layer.
Media Files
Images, videos and audio files from your media gallery.
Images
A static image. Supports chroma key and shapes. On the Free plan an evmux watermark is shown.
Videos
A video file. Toolbar options:
- Loop: play again when the video ends
- Autoswitch: switch to a chosen scene when the video ends
- Volume slider with a mute toggle
- Trim (scissors icon): set start and end points in the Video Trimmer
Videos also support chroma key. On the Free plan an evmux watermark is shown.
Audio
An audio file. It has the same loop, autoswitch, volume and trim options as a video.
Slideshow
A set of images or the pages of a PDF, shown one slide at a time. Click the settings icon to open the slideshow controls.
Options:
- Previous / next navigation and a slide picker
- Auto-advance
- Grant a guest permission to control the slides
Web Source
Embeds a web page, or your own HTML, in the scene. The Web Source Settings button in the toolbar opens the configuration.
Options:
- URL of the page to embed, or custom HTML/CSS instead of a URL
- Fixed size: render at a fixed width and height (default 1920 x 1080) instead of following the layer size
Web content stays interactive.
Apps & Widgets
Adds an app or widget such as a countdown or a poll. Click the settings icon to open the app’s own settings panel. When an app needs data before it can run, a Configure App Data button appears on the layer.
Speaker
Opens a chooser that lists everyone in the studio: you, your speakers and your guests. Pick a person to put their camera on the scene.
Options and behavior:
- Per-person volume and mute
- Lower third overlay for that person, using their name and title
- Chroma key
- When the camera is off, the person’s avatar is shown instead
- A talk highlight when the person is speaking (if enabled on your account)
- Spotlight in the Dynamic Scene or a Dynamic Grid
Your own camera
Your own feed can use up to three cameras (Pro plan). Each camera can use a different microphone, and you can mirror the camera image.
Screenshare
A participant’s shared screen, window or browser tab. Audio from the shared screen is included when the browser supports it.
Options: chroma key, frame and border settings. You can renew the screen share from the toolbar.
Media share
A video file that a participant plays from their own computer. Playback stays in sync for everyone. Supports chroma key and the frame editor.
