Backstage Chat (Messenger)

The Backstage Chat system enables private communication between editors, speakers, and guests during broadcasts. Messages are not visible to viewers.

Backstage chat features:

Editors, speakers, and guests can all use the chat.

Attachments

Supported types

  • Images (previewed in the chat)
  • Videos (previewed in the chat)
  • Other files (downloaded)

Viewing attachments

Open an attachment to view it full size. From the viewer you can step to the next or previous attachment in the same chat.

Download

Files under 50 MB can be downloaded directly from the chat.

Opening a chat

Click a participant in the peers list to open the conversation with them.

Returning to the peers list

Click the back button.

Switching sessions

Your chat conversations are kept when you switch between sessions in the studio.

Unread tracking

Each conversation shows its own unread count in the peers list.

Backstage chat and PTT

Backstage chat works alongside PTT (Push to Talk):

  • Chat for text communication
  • PTT for voice communication
  • Both are private and never go out to the broadcast

Best practices

  1. Keep messages brief for quick coordination.
  2. Use PTT for urgent messages; voice is faster.
  3. Share files sparingly; large files slow things down.
  4. Check unread counts so you don’t miss messages.
