How to Add an Intro Video to Play at Livestream Start

You can set up an intro video that plays automatically when your livestream starts, then switches to your main content when the video ends.

The easiest way is to use the built-in Add Intro Scene feature in the Go Live panel.

Quick Steps:

  1. Open the Go Live panel (right sidebar)
  2. Click “Add Intro Scene”
  3. Choose “Choose from gallery” or “Upload your own”
  4. Select or upload your intro video
  5. Done - Evmux creates the scene and configures everything automatically

What This Does Automatically:

  • Creates a new scene called “Intro Scene”
  • Adds your video to that scene
  • Sets Auto-switch to Dynamic Scene (switches when video ends)
  • Sets the Intro Scene as your Starting Scene

When you go live, the intro plays first, then automatically switches to your main content.

Alternative: Manual Setup

If you want more control, you can set this up manually.

Step 1: Create a Scene for Your Intro

  1. Click + Add Scene in the Scenes panel
  2. Name it (e.g., “Intro” or “Starting Soon”)
  3. Add your intro video as a layer:
    • Click Add Layer → Media → Select your video
    • Or drag your video from the Media gallery

Step 2: Set Auto-Switch on the Video

This makes the scene switch automatically when the video ends:

  1. Select the video layer (click on it)
  2. In the layer toolbar, find Autoswitch
  3. Click and select your target scene:
    • Dynamic Scene - Your main broadcast layout
    • Or any other Pro scene you want to switch to

Step 3: Disable Loop (Important!)

Auto-switch won’t work if Loop is enabled:

  1. Make sure Loop is OFF on the video layer
  2. If loop is on, the video repeats forever

Step 4: Set as Starting Scene

Tell evmux to start with your intro scene:

  1. In the Go Live panel, find the starting scene indicator
  2. Click on it (shows “Current starting scene is…”)
  3. In the popup, select your Intro scene
  4. It will now play first when you go live

To change which scene plays first:

Method 1: From Go Live Panel

  1. Look at the Go Live panel in the right sidebar
  2. Click on the scene preview showing “Starting Scene”
  3. Select the scene you want to start with

Method 2: From Starting Scene Popup

  1. Click the starting scene indicator in Go Live
  2. A popup shows: “Choose which scene will be playing first after going live”
  3. Options include:
    • Dynamic Scene - Start with your main layout
    • Your Pro Scenes - Any scene you’ve created
    • Create New Intro Scene - Quick setup with auto-switch

The Complete Workflow

Here’s what happens when you go live with an intro:

  1. You click Go Live → Stream starts
  2. Intro Scene plays → Your intro video is visible to viewers
  3. Video ends → Auto-switch triggers
  4. Main Scene appears → Automatically switches to Dynamic Scene (or your chosen scene)
  5. You continue broadcasting → No manual switching needed

Tips

  • Keep intros short - 5-15 seconds is ideal
  • Test before going live - Preview to confirm the auto-switch works
  • Have your main scene ready - Make sure cameras/content are set up before going live
  • Use a stinger transition - Add a stinger on the target scene for a smooth animated transition

Troubleshooting

Video doesn’t auto-switch?

  • Check that Loop is OFF
  • Verify Autoswitch is set to a scene (not “None”)
  • Make sure the video is actually playing (not paused)

Wrong scene plays first?

  • Check your Starting Scene setting in Go Live
  • Click on it and select the correct intro scene

Want to skip the intro sometimes?

  • Change the Starting Scene to Dynamic Scene
  • Or manually switch scenes after going live
