Banners and Graphics

Evmux provides tools for adding graphics, lower thirds, tickers, and visual overlays to your broadcast.

There are two kinds of banners:

  1. Static Banners - Fixed text overlays
  2. Tickers - Scrolling text overlays

Both are shown in one of 6 visual styles that you pick for the session.

Each banner has a title (the primary text), a text line (the secondary text), a display order, and an on/off state. A ticker also has a scroll direction.

Style 1 - Classic

  • Colored left bar with white/gradient background
  • Gradient based on banner color (darker to original)
  • Supports an event logo section
  • Footer with ticker section
  • Date/time section in the footer
  • Social network logo display for comments

Style 2 - Modern

  • Gradient background overlay at the bottom
  • Top colored bar accent
  • White overlay animation effects
  • Animated image transitions
  • Title scales down as it enters

Style 3 - Dark

  • Diagonal corner cut
  • Colored accent triangle
  • Dark themed appearance

Style 4 - Minimal

  • Left border accent with white background
  • Clean, simple design

Style 5 - Modern Diagonal

  • Angled colored section on the left
  • Rounded corners
  • Supports event logo display

Style 6 - Premium

  • Gradient border effect
  • Dual-section layout with bottom bar
  • Supports event logo display

Common features across all styles:

  • Event logo display (can be turned on or off)
  • Date/time display (can be turned on or off)
  • Ticker/scrolling text support
  • Social network comment display with profile pictures
  • Animated enter/exit transitions

In Dual Streaming Mode, banners are rendered separately for landscape and portrait, so check how they look in both orientations.

Font Size Auto-Scaling

Longer text is shown in a smaller font automatically:

Text LengthFont Size
0-54 chars60px
55-100 chars45px
101-150 chars40px
151-200 chars35px

Ticker (Scrolling Text)

A ticker is a banner whose text scrolls across the screen. Only one ticker is on screen at a time.

Direction Options

  • LTR (Left-to-Right)
  • RTL (Right-to-Left)

Ticker Speed

One pass of the ticker takes about 12 seconds plus roughly 9 seconds per 100 characters of title and text combined. Longer text therefore stays on screen longer.

Social Network Comment Display

When you show a comment as a banner, it carries a platform badge in the platform’s brand color. Supported platforms:

  • Facebook
  • YouTube
  • Twitter
  • LinkedIn
  • Twitch
  • Kick
  • Rumble
  • TikTok
  • Evmux (no badge shadow)

The banner shows the commenter’s name, the comment text, and their profile picture. Super Chats and donations show the amount, and YouTube membership gifts show the membership level.

Lower Thirds (Animated Captions)

Lower thirds are per-speaker overlays that display name and company information.

Animation styles

There are 14 built-in animation styles, ranging from a classic bar with logo to stacked two-line layouts, single lines with a bottom bar, multiple accent lines, and layouts with a vertical divider. Some styles have a video background behind the text.

The lower third is linked to a speaker, so its name and company come from that speaker’s profile unless you enter custom row text.

  • Top Left
  • Top Center
  • Top Right
  • Bottom Left (default)
  • Bottom Center
  • Bottom Right

Timing Behavior

  1. Start Delay: Waits the set number of seconds before appearing
  2. Visibility Duration: Shows for the set number of seconds (plus 1.5 s of animation time)
  3. Cycle Duration: Waits the set number of seconds before repeating (plus 3 s of animation time)

If Stay static is on, the lower third stays visible indefinitely. If Play once is on, it plays once and does not repeat.

In Dual Streaming Mode, lower thirds are rendered separately for landscape and portrait.

You pick the banner color with a color picker in the Graphics settings; it can include transparency.

Automatic Text Contrast

Text color is chosen automatically: dark text on light banner colors and white text on dark banner colors.

Logo and Watermark

Event Logo in Banners

  • Can be turned on or off in the Graphics settings
  • Uses the project’s logo
  • Supported in the Classic, Modern, Modern Diagonal, and Premium styles
  • The logo is shown at up to 160px height

Watermark

  • Static image overlay
  • Full screen coverage
  • Sits behind the content layers

Font Options

The branding font applies to banners and lower thirds. Available fonts:

  • Default
  • Roboto
  • Germania One
  • Montserrat
  • Open Sans
  • Poppins
  • Raleway
  • Oswald
  • Lato
  • Source Sans Pro

Animations

Banners animate in (the background scales in, then the image and text fade in; a ticker slides up) and bounce out when hidden.

Best Practices

  1. Keep text concise - Shorter text is more readable
  2. Use high contrast - Ensure text is visible on video
  3. Match branding - Use consistent banner colors
  4. Animate sparingly - Too much motion distracts viewers
  5. Test on stream - Verify appearance before going live
  6. Prepare banners ahead - Create all banners before broadcast
  7. Use appropriate styles - Choose style based on content type
  8. Consider ticker speed - Longer text = longer display time
