Broadcast a Past Recording as a Pre-Recorded Livestream

Take a finished evmux recording and re-broadcast it as if it were live — with destinations, optional chat, and an “On Air” countdown. The recording streams to the configured destinations from a chosen start time, so viewers experience it as a scheduled live event rather than as an on-demand video.

This is a different flow from share-recording-to-social (which posts the recording as a static video on a platform). Use Pre-Recorded Livestream when you want a live event experience over an existing recording.

Prerequisites

The recording has finished processing (status READY).
The recording is a server recording, not a local (ISO) recording. ISO recordings cannot be re-broadcast directly; download and re-upload the file first if needed.
The recording is available for download.
Your plan includes the evmux Player. On plans without it, the dropdown item does not appear.

Where to find it

The action lives in the per-recording dropdown on the Recordings page — the same dropdown that holds “Download”, “Trim video”, and (when enabled) “Social Share”.

Steps

On the Recordings page, find the recording you want to broadcast and click the three-dot (”…”) dropdown on its row.

Step 2: Click “Create Pre-Recorded Livestream”

In the dropdown, click “Create Pre-Recorded Livestream”. The item has a radio icon.

If you don’t see this item, one of the prerequisites is not met — see Troubleshooting below.

Step 3: Configure destinations and studio settings

Clicking the item opens the destinations module directly at the studio-creation step (it does NOT open the Social Share window). The recording is pre-filled as the source, with its title, duration, size and thumbnail already set.

You then go through the standard studio-creation flow: name the new pre-recorded session, choose destinations (Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.), set the scheduled start time, and configure any chat or overlays. Fill in the fields and click Next / Save.

The steps in the destinations module are the same as for creating any other broadcast — only the source is different. See add-destination for the destinations side and go-live for the broadcast side.

Step 4: Schedule or start the broadcast

Once the studio is configured, you can:

Schedule it for a future time — the recording starts broadcasting automatically at that time.
Start immediately — the recording begins streaming to your destinations now and viewers see it as a live event.

The recording streams from start to end, and the broadcast ends automatically when the recording finishes (no manual stop needed).

Result

A new pre-recorded livestream session exists, configured to play your existing recording to the selected destinations. Viewers on the destination platforms see it as a normal live event — they can chat, react, and join late just like any other livestream.

Troubleshooting

Symptom	Likely cause
“Create Pre-Recorded Livestream” not in the dropdown	The recording is a local (ISO) recording, its status isn’t READY, it isn’t available for download, or your plan doesn’t include the evmux Player
Destinations module opens but the recording isn’t pre-selected	Close the module and try again from the dropdown
