How to Change Your Name in the Lower Third

The lower third is the name display that appears at the bottom of your camera feed during broadcasts. Here’s how to change it.

Quick Steps

  1. Look at the Fast Access Bar (bottom bar showing all participants)
  2. Find the participant whose name you want to change
  3. Click the three dots menu (⋮) on their thumbnail
  4. Select “Edit name”
  5. Change the name fields and save

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Find the Participant in the Fast Access Bar

  1. Look at the bottom of the editor - you’ll see the Fast Access Bar showing video thumbnails of all connected participants (editors, speakers, guests)
  2. Find the participant whose lower third you want to change
  3. You’ll be listed there too (your own camera feed)

Step 2: Open the Edit Name Dialog

  1. Click the three dots menu (⋮) on the participant’s thumbnail in the Fast Access Bar
  2. Select “Edit name” from the menu
  3. The edit popup opens

Alternative: You can also right-click on the participant’s thumbnail to get the same context menu.

Step 3: Change Name Fields

In the edit popup, you can change:

Step 4: Save Changes

  1. Click Save
  2. The lower third updates immediately
  3. Changes apply to all scenes where this camera appears

What the Lower Third Shows

The lower third display combines your profile fields:

Via Layers Tab

  1. Open the Layers tab in the left sidebar
  2. Find the speaker, guest, or editor layer in the layers list
  3. Click the three dots (⋮) on that layer
  4. Select “Edit name”
  5. Change the name fields and save

The Layers tab shows all layers in the current scene, including speaker/guest/editor camera layers with their name and avatar.

Changing Another Participant’s Name

As the host, you can change a guest’s or speaker’s name too. Open the three-dots (⋮) menu on their tile in the Fast Access Bar and choose Edit name. This opens their name and lower-third fields from your side — it uses the Remote Settings feature, so they get a request to approve it first (they can also allow it permanently in their Advanced settings).

If nobody else has joined yet, there’s no one to edit — the option appears on a guest’s or speaker’s tile once they’re in the studio.

Note: You can change your own name and the names of speakers/guests, but not other editors/collaborators.

Hiding the Lower Third

If you don’t want any name displayed:

  1. Go to the Brand tab in the left sidebar
  2. Find the Lower thirds section
  3. Toggle it OFF to disable lower thirds for all speakers
  4. Or customize per-layer: select the layer → layer toolbar → Custom Lower third → uncheck “Enabled”

Tips

  • Keep names concise for readability
  • Use the Title field for credentials (Dr., Prof.)
  • Company/Position are optional but add context
  • Test how it looks on screen before going live
