How to Use Auto-Switch for Videos

Auto-switch automatically switches to another scene when a video or audio layer finishes playing. This is perfect for intro videos, countdowns, or any timed content that should transition automatically.

What is Auto-Switch?

Auto-switch is a layer setting available on video and audio layers. When enabled:

  • The video/audio plays to the end
  • Evmux automatically switches to your chosen scene
  • No manual switching needed

Quick Steps

  1. Add a video layer to your scene
  2. Select the video layer
  3. In the layer toolbar, open the gear (settings) dropper — Autoswitch lives inside it
  4. Select the target scene to switch to
  5. Make sure Loop is OFF
  6. Start your broadcast - it will auto-switch when the video ends

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Create Your Intro Scene

  1. Create a new scene (e.g., “Intro”)
  2. Add your intro video as a layer
  3. This will be the scene that plays first

Step 2: Select the Video Layer

  1. Click on the video layer in the Layers panel
  2. Or click directly on the video in the scene
  3. The layer toolbar will appear

Step 3: Set Auto-Switch Target

  1. In the layer toolbar, click the gear (settings) icon to open its dropper
  2. Inside it, make sure Loop is off — Autoswitch is unavailable while the video loops
  3. Click Autoswitch to open the scene list
  4. Choose where to switch after the video ends:
    • None - No auto-switch (default)
    • Dynamic Scene - Switch to the Dynamic Scene
    • [Your Scene Name] - Any other Pro scene

Step 4: Disable Loop (Important!)

Auto-switch will NOT work if Loop is enabled!

  1. Make sure the Loop toggle is OFF
  2. If loop is on, the video repeats forever and never triggers auto-switch
  3. Evmux will warn you if you try to enable both

Step 5: Test Your Setup

  1. Preview your scene
  2. Let the video play to the end
  3. Confirm it switches to the correct scene

Perfect Use Cases

Intro Video → Main Show

  1. Scene 1: Intro video with auto-switch to Scene 2
  2. Scene 2: Your main broadcast content
  3. Start on Scene 1, it auto-switches when intro ends

Countdown Timer → Live

  1. Scene 1: Countdown video (10, 9, 8…)
  2. Scene 2: Live camera scene
  3. Perfect timing every time

Commercial Break → Return

  1. Scene 1: Pre-recorded break content
  2. Scene 2: Back to live show
  3. Automated transitions

Music/Audio Intro → Main Content

  1. Audio layer with intro music + auto-switch
  2. When music ends, switch to main scene

How Timing Works

  • Auto-switch triggers slightly before the video ends (~0.5 seconds)
  • This allows time for scene transitions (stingers)
  • If the target scene has a stinger, the timing adjusts automatically

Troubleshooting

Auto-switch not working?

  • Check Loop setting - Must be OFF
  • Video must be playing - Paused videos don’t trigger
  • Scene must be live - Only works during broadcast/preview

Switches too early/late?

  • Check your video’s end time (use trimmer if needed)
  • Stinger transitions affect timing
  • Test in preview mode first

Want to cancel auto-switch during broadcast?

  • Switch scenes manually before the video ends
  • Or pause the video
  • Open the gear dropper again and set autoswitch back to “None”

Combining with Stingers

Auto-switch works great with scene transitions (stingers):

  1. Set a stinger on the target scene
  2. Auto-switch triggers the stinger automatically
  3. Creates a professional animated transition
