Presets and Layouts
evmux provides preset layouts for quickly arranging participants in the Dynamic Scene. A preset positions the layers automatically based on how many participants are in the scene.
When you are dual streaming, each preset has its own portrait arrangement, so the same layout looks different in the portrait output. See Dual Streaming.
Dynamic Scene layouts
The Dynamic Scene offers eight preset layouts:

Banner variants
Every layout has a variant that shifts the content up to make room for banners. It is used automatically when banners or comments are shown and the Push content up setting is enabled in the Social Comments settings.
Fast Access Bar
The Fast Access Bar gives quick access to:
- Participant feeds: speakers, guests, media shares, screen shares
- Multicam feeds: Camera 1, 2 and 3
- Horizontal scrolling with navigation arrows
Fast Changes Bar
The Fast Changes Bar sits below the editor preview. It shows a button with an icon for each layout template, plus a Pro Scene button. Click a template to apply it.
Choosing a layout cancels any active spotlight.
When layouts are disabled
Layouts cannot be changed while a video clip is playing in the Dynamic Scene. The buttons show the tooltip “Changing layout not available during video clip playing”.
Adjusting positions
Within a preset you can fine-tune the participants directly on the preview:
- Drag a participant to reposition it
- Changes apply in real time
- Works on touch devices
- Each participant shows action buttons, including Spotlight and Exclusive Talk
Spotlight
Spotlight puts one participant on the full screen and hides or minimises the others. Use it to highlight whoever is talking or presenting.
Exclusive Talk
Exclusive Talk gives the microphone to one participant. Everyone else is muted and a visual indicator shows who has the floor.
Portrait streaming
In portrait streaming the layouts use a separate set of portrait positions. Landscape and portrait positions are stored separately, so adjusting one does not move the other.
Best practices
- Use presets for speed. They are the quickest way to change the layout while live.
- Use Pro Scenes for precision. Build a Pro Scene when you need exact control.
- Test your layouts. Check that every participant fits well.
- Match the content. Pick a layout that suits the segment.
- Use spotlight. Highlight the active speaker.
- Prepare variants. Have different layouts ready for different segments.
