Fix Facebook Stream Privacy (Friends Only Issue)
The Problem
When streaming to Facebook, your stream may default to “Friends Only” instead of Public. This happens because of your Facebook privacy settings for the Evmux app, not settings within Evmux itself.
Important: This Is a Facebook Setting
The privacy setting is controlled in Facebook, not in Evmux. You need to change the Evmux app permissions in your Facebook account settings.
Two Paths Depending on Your Connection Type
Facebook has two different locations for app settings:
- Apps and Websites - If you connected Evmux to your Facebook profile
- Business Integrations - If you connected Evmux to a Facebook Page
Check both if you’re not sure which applies to you.
Method 1: Business Integrations (For Facebook Pages)
If Evmux was connected to a Facebook Page:
Step-by-Step:
- Go to Facebook and click your profile picture (top right)
- Select “Settings & Privacy”
- Click “Settings”
- In the left sidebar, find “Business Integrations”
- Find Evmux in the list of connected apps
- Click “View and Edit” next to Evmux
- Scroll to the bottom of the popup window
- Find the privacy selector dropdown
- Change it from “Friends” to “Public”
- Click “Save”
Method 2: Apps and Websites (For Facebook Profiles)
If Evmux was connected to your personal Facebook profile:
Step-by-Step:
- Go to Facebook and click your profile picture (top right)
- Select “Settings & Privacy”
- Click “Settings”
- In the left sidebar, click “Apps and Websites”
- Find Evmux in the list of active apps
- Click “View and Edit” next to Evmux
- Look for the Visibility or Privacy setting
- Change it to “Public”
- Click “Save”

After Changing Settings
- The change takes effect immediately
- Your next stream should default to Public
- If it still shows Friends Only, try disconnecting and reconnecting Facebook in Evmux
Still Having Issues?
If the privacy is still wrong after changing these settings:
- Disconnect Facebook from Evmux (in Evmux destination settings)
- Reconnect Facebook to Evmux
- Make sure to grant Public posting permissions during the reconnection

- Check these settings BEFORE going live
- Do a test stream to verify privacy is correct
- Facebook may reset app permissions after major updates
- If streaming to a Page, ensure the Page’s default post privacy allows Public posts
