How to Delete a Layer

This guide shows you how to remove layers you no longer need from your scene.

Quick Steps

  1. Select the layer you want to delete
  2. Press Delete or Backspace key
  3. Layer is removed
  4. Or right-click > Delete

Method 1: Keyboard Shortcut

Delete Key

  1. Click on the layer to select it
  2. Press Delete or Backspace
  3. Layer is immediately removed

With Confirmation

Some systems may ask to confirm:

  1. Press Delete
  2. Click Yes or Confirm in dialog
  3. Layer is removed

Method 2: Right-Click Menu

From the scene

  1. Right-click on the layer in the scene
  2. Select Remove from Scene
  3. Layer is removed

From Layers Panel

  1. Right-click on the layer name in Layers panel
  2. Select Remove from Scene
  3. Layer is removed

Method 3: Layers Panel Button

Delete Button

  1. Select the layer in the Layers panel
  2. Click the Delete or Trash icon (🗑)
  3. Layer is removed

Before You Delete

Consider Alternatives

Things to Check

  • Is this the right layer?
  • Do you have a backup/duplicate?
  • Can you hide it instead?

Deleting Multiple Layers

Select and Delete Multiple

  1. Hold Ctrl/Cmd and click each layer
  2. Or Shift-click for a range
  3. Press Delete
  4. All selected layers are removed

Delete All (Careful!)

If available:

  1. Select All (Ctrl/Cmd + A)
  2. Delete
  3. All layers removed (use with caution)

Undo Deletion

Immediate Undo

If you accidentally delete:

  1. Press Ctrl/Cmd + Z immediately
  2. Layer is restored

Undo Limitations

  • May only work immediately after
  • Some actions can’t be undone
  • Multiple undos may be needed

Recommendation: Hide if you might need it again. Delete only if you’re sure.

Locked Layers

If Layer is Locked

  1. You cannot delete a locked layer
  2. First unlock it:
    • Click the lock icon
    • Or right-click > Unlock
  3. Then delete

Troubleshooting

Can’t delete layer?

  • Check if layer is locked
  • Verify layer is selected
  • Try different method (right-click vs. keyboard)

Wrong layer deleted?

  • Immediately press Ctrl/Cmd + Z to undo
  • Check if layer was just hidden
  • Look in other scenes

Delete option not showing?

  • Layer may be locked
  • May be a system layer (can’t be deleted)
  • Try selecting differently

Deleted layer reappears?

  • Check if in a scene that auto-loads content
  • May be part of a template
  • Verify deletion was confirmed

Best Practices

  1. Hide first - Instead of delete if unsure
  2. Use undo - If accidentally deleted
  3. Check selection - Verify correct layer before delete
  4. Clean regularly - Remove unused layers
  5. Name layers - Know what you’re deleting

Deleting in Specific Contexts

Deleting from All Scenes

If layer exists in multiple scenes:

  1. Delete from each scene individually
  2. Or find “Delete from All” option if available

Deleting Grouped Layers

  1. Select the group
  2. Delete removes entire group
  3. Or ungroup first to delete individual layers

Deleting Participant Layers

Removing a participant’s video layer:

  1. This hides their video
  2. They remain in the session
  3. Add back if needed
