Destination Says It Needs Reconnecting

What the message means

A destination is connected to evmux with an authorization granted by the platform (YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitch, Kick, X). That authorization can stop working — it expires, the platform revokes it, the password changed, or access to the page or channel was removed. evmux then marks that destination as needing to be reconnected and shows “We’ve lost connection” with a Reconnect link on it.

It affects only that one destination. Everything else in the session is unaffected, and the destination keeps its settings — reconnecting restores the authorization, it does not recreate the destination.

Where you see it

  • In the destinations popup — open Destinations, and the affected platform’s section shows “We’ve lost connection” with the Reconnect link.
  • In the header while live — each destination avatar opens a status drop; a destination that lost access shows a red message there with a Reconnect action.

How to fix it

  1. Open Destinations.
  2. Find the platform showing “We’ve lost connection” and click Reconnect.
  3. A login window for that platform opens — sign in and grant the permissions it asks for.
  4. When it closes, the warning disappears and the destination is usable again.

Who is allowed to reconnect

Only the person who originally added the destination can reconnect it. If someone else tries, evmux says so explicitly:

To reconnect this destination, the original owner (the person who added it) must log in and complete the reconnection of this channel.

The Reconnect link is also hidden entirely for users who are not allowed to change that destination.

If it fails

  • “The user ID in the connected account doesn’t match the user ID for this destination” — you signed in with a different account than the one the destination was created with. Log out of that platform in your browser, then reconnect and pick the right account.
  • Permissions not granted — the platform’s consent screen must be completed. Declining any required permission leaves the destination disconnected.
  • Facebook pages / groups — if the page or group is no longer administered by that account, reconnecting cannot restore it; the destination has to be added again against an account that still has access.

Prevention

  • Reconnecting is normal maintenance, not a fault — platform tokens expire by design.
  • Check your destinations before an important broadcast rather than at go-live time: a destination that needs reconnecting will not receive the stream.
