Enable Dual Streaming (Landscape + Portrait at Once)

Dual Streaming lets a single session broadcast a 16:9 (landscape) feed and a 9:16 (portrait) feed simultaneously. Use it when you want one show to reach both desktop platforms (YouTube, Twitch) and short-form vertical platforms (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube Shorts).

Prerequisites

  • Plan: Going live or recording in dual mode requires the Pro plan or higher. On lower plans you can switch to dual mode and preview it, but the Go Live and Record buttons stay disabled with the warning “Dual Streaming Mode requires the Pro plan”.
  • Enabled on your account: The Dual Streaming Mode button only appears when dual streaming is enabled for your account. If you don’t see “Dual Streaming Mode” in the Streaming mode switcher, contact support.
  • You must not be live. The mode switcher is disabled while a broadcast is running. Switch modes before clicking Go Live.

Steps

Step 1: Open the Streaming mode switcher

The switcher lives in the menu bar at the bottom of the editor and is labelled “Streaming mode”.

Step 2: Choose Dual Streaming Mode

Click Dual Streaming Mode (the third option, shown with stacked landscape + portrait icons). Your scene preview switches to show both a 16:9 and a 9:16 frame side by side.

If you see only Landscape and Portrait options, dual streaming is not enabled for your account — contact support.

Step 3: Adjust per-layer behavior for portrait

In dual mode, each layer can be independently shown, hidden, or locked in the portrait orientation while remaining visible in landscape (or vice versa).

  1. Select a layer in the layers panel.
  2. Look for the “Portrait:” row that appears under the layer item.
  3. Click the eye icon to hide the layer in portrait.
  4. Click the lock icon to lock the layer’s position in portrait (prevents accidental drag/resize when arranging the portrait composition).

Layers also get a small Landscape / Portrait badge in the layer toolbar so you can tell at a glance which feed each layer belongs to.

Step 4: Set per-destination orientation

Open the Destinations panel and expand each destination. Each destination now has an “Orientation” section (with a small “New!” badge). Choose:

  • Landscape — this destination receives only the 16:9 feed.
  • Portrait — this destination receives only the 9:16 feed.
  • Both — this destination receives both feeds (available on platforms that support it, like YouTube).

An orientation icon (landscape, portrait, or both stacked) appears in the header of each destination so you can verify the choice without expanding it again.

Pairing two destinations: If you create two destinations on the same platform account and set both to Both, evmux automatically pairs them so one carries landscape and the other carries portrait. On YouTube, the destination then shows separate “Link to scheduled post” entries for the landscape and portrait scheduled videos.

Step 5: Decide what to record (optional)

If you’re also recording in dual mode, the Go Live panel arms both the landscape and the portrait recording the first time you open it. In the recording options you can choose to record only the 16:9 master, only the 9:16 master, or both.

Step 6: Verify and Go Live

  1. Check the preview shows the correct framing in both orientations.
  2. Confirm every destination has the orientation you want.
  3. Confirm there is no yellow “Dual Streaming Mode requires the Pro plan” warning. If you see it, your plan does not include dual streaming.
  4. Click Go Live (or Start for recording).

The broadcast runs two feeds in parallel — one landscape and one portrait — until you end the broadcast.

Speaker / guest view

Speakers and guests joining a session that’s in dual mode see a separate, local-only switcher labelled “Preview orientation” with just Landscape and Portrait. Their choice only affects what they see — it does not change what’s broadcast. The choice is remembered on their device.

Result

A single session broadcasts both 16:9 and 9:16 feeds at the same time, with each destination receiving the orientation you assigned. Layers can be hidden or locked per orientation; banners and lower thirds adapt to each orientation automatically.

Troubleshooting

  • “Dual Streaming Mode” option doesn’t appear. Dual streaming is not enabled for your account. Contact support.
  • Go Live button is disabled in dual mode. Your plan doesn’t include dual streaming. Upgrade to Pro or higher, or switch back to single-orientation mode.
  • The portrait feed looks wrong. Open each layer’s “Portrait:” controls and adjust hide/lock, then check the portrait frame in the preview.
  • One destination is receiving the wrong orientation. Check the destination’s Orientation dropdown — the icon in the destination header should match what you picked.
  • YouTube dual-scheduled posts aren’t linked. Both YouTube destinations must be on the same YouTube account and both must be set to “Both” orientation to be paired.
