Multicam
Multicam lets you add up to two extra cameras, Camera 2 and Camera 3, next to your main camera, so you can broadcast from several angles.
Overview
| Camera | Description |
|---|---|
| Camera 1 | Your main camera |
| Camera 2 | First additional camera |
| Camera 3 | Second additional camera |
Adding a camera
- Click Add Camera in the fast access bar.
- The Add new camera source dialog opens.
- Select the camera device.
- Choose the camera’s order: Camera 2 or Camera 3.
- Set the resolution.
- Optionally pick an audio source.
- Click Add.
Options in the dialog
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Camera | Any connected camera |
| Camera’s order | Camera 2 or Camera 3 |
| Camera Resolution | auto, 720p, 1080p, 1440p, 2160p |
| Audio Source | None, or a microphone |
The resolution you choose is remembered for each camera device.
Rules
- One camera per slot. You cannot use the same physical camera in two slots.
- Fill Camera 2 first. If both slots are empty, Camera 2 must be added before Camera 3.
- The camera must be connected and accessible to the browser.
If you break a rule, evmux tells you:
- “Camera 2 already set up. Please choose another option.”
- “Camera 3 already set up. Please choose another option.”
- “The camera [name] already in use. Please choose another camera.”
Audio
Connecting a microphone to an extra camera is optional. When you add a camera you can leave it with no audio or pick a microphone for it. Each extra camera has its own microphone, mute state and volume.
Same audio on two cameras
If two cameras in the same scene use the same microphone, that audio is sent twice, so viewers hear it doubled. Give the microphone to only one camera.
Switching cameras
Keyboard shortcuts

In layers
Each participant layer can show any of that participant’s feeds:
- Main camera
- Camera 2
- Camera 3
- Screen share
- Media share
Removing a camera
Removing an extra camera stops it and frees the slot for another device.
Best practices
- Test every camera before going live.
- Use separate USB ports or connections for each device.
- Match resolutions across cameras for a consistent picture.
- Plan the audio. Decide which camera carries the microphone.
- Label your cameras so you know which physical camera is which.
